Anna Ford
is well known and respected for her contribution to news and current
affairs, and in particular for her newsreading, having worked as a
journalist for over 30 years.
Anna Ford presented the BBC One O’Clock News from 1999 until she stepped down in 2006.
She worked on ‘Man Alive’ and ‘Tomorrow’s World’ and was the first female presenter of ITN’s ‘News at Ten’. Anna has presented both the Six O’ Clock and the One O’ Clock News for BBC Television, and was one of the famous five who launched the breakfast programme TV-AM.
On radio, Anna Ford regularly presented unsecured loans the ‘Today’ programme and ‘Woman's Hour’ on Radio 4, as well as standing in for Jimmy Young on BBC Radio 2. Anna’s latest role for Radio 4 is hosting a brand new series ‘The Garden Quiz’.
Not confining herself to newsreading, guest appearances have included ‘Have I Got News For You’, (both as a panellist and host), and a singing role in BBC TV’s ‘Stars Sing The Beatles’.
Anna studied at Manchester University
where she attained a BA honours degree in Economics and postgraduate
diploma in Adult Education and was President of the Students Union. She
was awarded an Honorary Doctorate of Law in 1998, and was installed as
the first female Chancellor bad credit loans of the University of Manchester in 2001.
In addition she has an Honorary fellowship from the Open University and an Honorary Doctorate from Queen’s University Belfast for her services to journalism.
Anna is a Fellow of the Royal Geographical Society, an Honorary Bencher of Middle Temple, a non-executive director of Sainsburys, a trustee of Forum for the Future, Board member of the Amazing Group, as she has been a trustee of the Royal Botanical Gardens Kew.
